Liting Ji's Teaching Statement

  As a music teacher, I intend to create adequate environment for my students who are interested in and talented for music to display, express and enhance their musical talent, knowledge and skills, so as to pass my positive and enthusiastic attitude to them. I enjoys expressing myself with music, so I want to share my happiness through musical expressions to others. In addition, since lots of parents want their children to pursue higher level of education, many children will suffer from great pressure from “4 hours of sleep, 4 cups of coffee and 4.0 GPA.” What I need to do is to relieve their stress with flowing stream of melody and beautiful combination of unique voices. That’s the reason why I want to direct a choir that consists of my students.

  It is worth mentioning that I will give my student moderate amount of peer discussions, group discussions and reflection assignments related to the background of required songs during and after each class. In addition, I will design assignments that involve answering questions that have no model answers for my students to encourage their critical thinking.

  Besides, as is known to everyone, self-confidence and expressiveness are not only crucial in musical performance and education, but also quite necessary in various occasions in the daily life, including job hunting, university/college application, etc. Therefore, I will provide my students with a multitude of opportunity, in order to help them get access to practical teaching experience in real life as early as possible.

   To summarize, I aim to promote critical thinking within my students, support their self expression, take care for my students and help them get onto a joyful journey on the ocean of useful musical and non-musical knowledge in my career of music education.

Liting Ji's Artistic Statement

   My motivation to pursue in my journey to the ultimate summit of the vocal art is driven by my passion for music and my desire to contribute to the field in a meaningful way. I am particularly interested in making and performing music, as I believe that such actions can enable me to connect my interest in music and my caring attitudes towards social, environmental problems throughout the world together.

 

  Just take myself as an example, recently, I am deciding to launch an research topic about the relationship between ocean and human’s musical creation and expression and then contribute to a dissertation over such topic, as current global marine pollution makes me worrying about disappearing ocean landscapes and biodiversity of this blue planet.

Liting Ji's DEIB Statement

   As an artist, I really cherish the essential meanings of the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion, as my colleagues from all over the world will develop and display their talents without stress under these commonly sensed moral frameworks.

 

  Generally speaking, I’ll include musical works by composers from different races, gender and cultural background in my concerts or recitals to show my commitment to DEIB through my work. In addition, I’ll also try my best to pay attention to avoid discrimination in my compositions.

 

   I can implement my unbiased recognition and equal attitude towards different groups of people in my work to better address issues of social justice.

Liting Ji's Biography

At a very young age, Liting Ji developed lifelong interest in music and engaged in vocal trainings at the age of 12.

In addition, she was also always drawn to the soothing melodies of the ocean and the mysterious creatures that inhabited its depths. She often dress herself up as Japanese traditional ama diver with special clothes and “Seiman-Dōman” amulet on the scarf,  then go on a beach trip, collect seashells and listen to the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore during summer vacations throughout her teens.

Recently, Liting decided to launch an research topic about the relationship between ocean and human’s musical creation and expression and then contribute to a dissertation over such topic, as current global marine pollution makes her worrying about disappearing ocean landscapes and biodiversity of this blue planet. In addition, she is also busy preparing for her solo recital related to such theme.

Liting’s choice to delve into the realm of music performance, composition and education is mainly because of her particular interest in the speculative aspect of such action , as she believe that new insights and understandings can enable her to connect her interest in music and her caring attitudes towards social, environmental problems throughout the world together.
